Bridal, Grad and Special occasion hair

important things to keep in mind

Did you know that most photos you see on pinterest, the models are wearing hair extentions? Not to mention there’s a filter on there. This goes for ALL hair inspo photos, not just the fancy special occassion do’s.

It’s important to mention this, because although these photos are GREAT for inspo (and I SO appreciate when people have their own ideas and bring photos!) it’s just good to know that how it comes out on YOUR hair will be different.

The color of hair in these photos also affects how things look. Ribbony low-lights in a blonde hair updo, really make braids pop. Someone with one-dimensional platinum hair, is going to get a completely different look, even if the styles are the same.

It’s important to consider the weather on your day - one of my best girlfriends got married in Canmore in 2019. I did her hair THREE TIMES that day, because it was a BLIZZARD. I curled it beautifully before she walked outdoors down the aisle, and again before they went for outdoor photos… and AGAIN for her reception. I was in the bridal party, so no problems. BUT, unless you want to hire me for an entire day (which, you can) you may want to consider this factor.

On that same day, us bridesmaids had fairly tight updo’s with a curl or two loose, and our hair held up pretty well, despite getting wet from the snow. Often times, people come to me for a trial look before they get married elsewhere (like BC, or Mexico!), because they want to see how they like the look, and have inspo to show whoever will be doing their hair later. These places can be humid or HOT, and that will also affect the style you may choose!

You also probably want hair that LASTS. If you’re having a full day event, I want to ensure that your style will go all day. Although some softer curl looks are lovely, depending on your hair type, they will fall a bit by the time the evening is over.
