why you should use salon professional product
I’ve said it 1000x.
I’ll say it again.
Proper salon product, is ABSOLUTELY necessary to maintain the hair you’ve JUST invested in at the salon.
I know that random people on Tik-tok might be telling you it’s just fine. I can assure you this isn’t a ploy by hairstylists to make more money. Most of us make very little, if anything, on product. Which means, most of us are educating you on this stuff… for your own benefit.
We could gate keep the info… when you ask us to “come home with you” and do your hair because it NEVER feels the same… we could laugh and say, I guess you’ll just have to come here once a week! Which would… actually make us more money…
You don’t go to a random person for accounting advice, right?
You see an accountant. (not to mention, you’re happy to pay for their expertise, right?)
We’re professionals, too.
We went to school and have years of experience, too.
I want you to feel like you can achieve great results and continue to have that “just left the salon” feeling, at home.
Professional shampoo keeps your cuticle more compact (therefore LESS MOISTURE and COLOR ESCAPING) and the conditioner actually closes the cuticle down. THUS, keeping you color fresher, longer. AND, it actually CONDITIONS the hair! YAY!
The drug store stuff… the MLM stuff… the natural stuff… just doesn’t. It can blow open your cuticle more than necessary, due to the higher pH, and the conditioner just sits on the hair, weighing it down. This also doesn’t close your cuticle and leaves it MORE exposed to wind/water/heat and sun damage.
Often times, clients who don’t use professional will say “but my hair feels so soft!” - which might very well be true. But the reality is that, softness doesn’t always equal health. What you’re likely feeling in the hair, is generally the waxy build up from the drugstore stuff. I can bet that it might feel soft, but it also feels weighed down or heavy? … also the buildup.
I’m just here to educate you - and I completely understand clients using products from elsewhere for various reasons. I always tell clients, what you do when you leave the salon is up to you.
BUT, it’s part of my JOB to educate you and let you know how to maintain your investment. I want to ensure you feel empowered to care for your hair at home between appointments.
Generally, I make product recommendations and write them all down for clients. This way, you can buy whatever you’d like at your appointment time (you get 15% off!) and I’m happy to show you the items you’re ready to take home. The remaining items, you can purchase as needed!
A few quick points:
It’s important to be honest about what you’re using - it can affect your color results, and may influence whether we need to be doing pre-color deep treatments or not.
It’s my job to let you know that I can’t guarantee your color or in-salon deep treatment results, if you’re not using professional stuff on it at home.
